Session 09: Activity 1 – XSLT and XHTML – Headers and Footers

Filed under: Activity, Feedback request — Rowland @ 8:39 am

In this activity you will produce your own web page formatted with XSLT by:

  • writing a simple XHTML page like mine;
  • converting it to XML by changing the file extension and some of the headers;
  • setting up a simple XSLT stylesheet which will display it;
  • adding a header and footer to your page;
  • commenting on this post to say what you learnt from doing this activity;

  1.  I have found this activity diifficult but with later activities can see it uses. IN cituations where things regularly change. Don't think I will be fruent in this in time for the assignment. Maybe later in life.

  2. Tricky. Suppose doable, but it is too much for me for now.

  3. Quite enjoyed this actually. I have a keen interest in programming and this reminds me of procedural programming in the way XSL works.

    The syntax is quite strange, but with Rowland’s examples it was easy to pick-up from my point of view.

    Discovered that you can edit any HTML tag just by using an XSL sheet. Including putting CSS styles into the ‘head’ tag.

    May be me being sad but I quite enjoyed it!!
